The pain of the English major

I’m not going to ruin the joke in this song; but, a friend of mine showed me this yesterday and my mouth was hanging in protest after the first lyric. I was again reminded that I have an all encompassing love affair with the English language.

Also, does anyone have a hatred of certain parts of speech? For example, this song reminded me that while I love the semicolon, I hate colons. I find them pretentious if such an attribute can be assigned to a form of punctuation.

Note: Vulgar language is used in parts of this song.

My new obsession

Sadly, I didn’t know about this interactive series until it one an emmy, but this series is absolutely amazing.

The Lizze Bennet Diaries is a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice.  Witty and imaginative, any 20-something  in the midst of navigating dating, school, a career and life is sure to enjoy it.

Check out their youtube channel and their website.

Also sorry that I just stole hours of your life.

A golden discovery

Every so often, I find, on the web, an artist so clear and cutting, that I can’t look away, so it is with Ze Frank.  From first watching his, Diary of a Sad Cat, I was hooked.

His work, funny, insightful, ironic and sometimes mournful, is the perfect reflection of the human condition. I urge you to check out his Youtube channel.

Note: He does have foul language in many of his videos, so beware if you are at work or if you have little nuggets (children) around.

If you are wondering where to start, I’ve listed my favorite art/life related videos below:

1) Good Books, a lovely discussion on literature, including my favorite author Vonnegut and one of my favorite books, Watership Down

2) Monkey Farter, a discussion of modern art

3) Teddy has an operation, what does a sick teddy bear and your life have in common?

4) Your time in jelly beans, what do you do with your extra jelly beans?
